Sample Requirements
- Liquid or extractable under mild conditions
- Can be aqueous or organic
- 2-3 milliliters per replicate
Summary of Technique
Samples are drawn into the instrument and nebulized into a flame atomizer. Elements are detected and quantified by measuring the absorption of a wavelength matched to the desired element(s).
Information Provided & Detection Limits
Atomic absorption is capable of quantifying the elements highlighted in blue on the periodic table to the left. Detection limits for AAS are usually in the range of a few ppm.
